Video On The Internet (student written article)

More and more nowadays the Internet is always changing, keeping up with the technology. This has lead to many changes to websites over the last few years. A change to a lot of Internet sites now is that instead of simply of having text on a website to give information, why not just film a video and upload that to a website. This is starting to happen quite a lot, and you can see why websites have started doing it.

If you are looking on a website and want to know what it’s about, would you rather read all the text on the page, or just press play? This is why a lot of sites have started using website presenters, this is to keep the person on the site interested, in a video you can simply listen and watch what they say and you’re done, an example I’m going to use is on the website doylesroom.com, a poker website from the pro poker player Doyle Brunson. When you go on to this website a video is played of Doyle Brunson. He tells you about the site and gives a few pointers why it’s unique this is to advertise the site and make it stand out, also if you use the main person themselves, in this case Doyle Brunson, the viewer will see Doyle presenting and will be interested because ‘it’s the man himself’, he is helping to advertise his website. This is another thing that has grown and grown over the Internet, Marketing.

In 2008 it announced that the Internet had taken over Television in taking more advertising revenue. This is because it’s so easy for a website to advertise; they can just slot it at the side, top or bottom of their website and doesn’t really affect their site, whereas to advertise on T.V there has to be the whole commercial breaks between programmes which aren’t appreciated by most viewers. Of course it’s still similar to T.V where certain adverts are shown on certain T.V channels, certain advertisements are shown on certain websites. For example if you go to thesun.co.uk in particular the sports pages, you will see advertising for gambling sites such as coral.co.uk, a site for the bookmakers ‘Coral’. When people are looking at the site and reading the articles about football, there may be articles about a match on the same day, when reading the article the person may think to themselves they fancy a bet on that game, and straight away Coral is there to help him, so the person is happy because they’ve managed to make their bet, and of course coral are happy because it’s their company that has made a bit more money.

Even the most popular sites like Facebook and YouTube, advertising is vital to help with their popularity, this is because it helps with them making money, which makes the site better, and we all know these sites have become some of the most popular sites around. Safe
