10 Things to do before you Upload your Online Video
As thousands of videos are uploaded everyday onto the worldwide web isn’t it about time someone
released a formula, a check list which outlines what makes an effective video? Well... they did, and
here at VMM we were the first to break down the process to ensure you tick the right criteria when
uploading your next online video viral campaign.
Tim Street is a viral video producer as well as a successful Creator and Executive Producer of
numerous online video campaigns. His new e-book –
10 Things You should do before you Upload your Online Video – gives you exactly what it says.
Ten really good ideas on what to do once you’ve made a video for the Internet.
A quick overview looks like this:
1. Know your overall goals – what are your objectives for the video? Direct selling? Brand awareness?
2. Create key art that sells – is your company logo easily identifiable? You’d recognise the golden
arches and the red tick from a fair distance.
3. Make sure you have the best thumbnail possible – count how many times you have selected a
video on YOU TUBE because you liked the picture in the small selection box.
4. Create Industry Marketing Tools – can your product help others thus creating brand awareness?
5. Find a sponsor – Why not showcase sponsored brands and create extra revenue for yourself?
6. Make friends who buy digital ink - Write a few blogs on your video content. There’s nothing like
a blog with a follow up video as well as creating links back to your video on an array of forums.
7. Know what you want people to say about you – first impressions last so if this is your first video
or your 20th keep your messages and branding consistent.
8. Promote the video everywhere within reason – too much of a good thing cannot be good for
anyone. So you want to promote your video, just ensure you are not ‘rick rolling’ viewers other than
when they are looking for your product or services e.g. specialise in Timber? Then try to stay away
from nursing... catch the drift?
9. Have a distribution plan – if you wanted to start a viral campaign then create a plan to re-distribute
video content weekly, monthly or quarterly. No one will remember you if you only advertise once year.
10. Have a conversation with your audience – selling beauty products to 18-25yr olds? Then why not
find them and discuss what attracts them to a good marketing campaign be it web based or on the TV.
You’ll get a good indication as to what your target audience is looking for.
Good luck with your video campaign.
